It all begins with very few phones

The telephone kiosks were built to be the home of the first pay phones back in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Unlike the later self service telephone box, the original telephone kiosks were staffed with a phone operator.

The original phone kiosks were not a succesful business venture. Only 4 - 5 calls were placed in the kiosk every week. The main problem was, that not many Danes had a phone at that time. This obviously limited the number of people they could call.

…but not today

Denmark now has a population of 5,6 million people. Currently, more than 8,6 million phones are active in the country resulting in the fact that each Dane in average have 1,5 phone.

DID you know…?

The beautiful Phone Tower has been robbed by the famous Olsen Gang, in the danish classic movie from 1974 “Olsen-bandens sidste bedrifter”.

Did you notice the three drunken tourists in the clip? They were portrayed by the norwegian actors who played the Olsen Gang in the Norwegian remakes.
